Therapy Dogs |
Katrina was brought to the Lycoming County SPCA by a kind hearted Good Samaritan. It seems Katrina had a litter of puppies that were not wanted by her former owner. The owner tried to give the pups away to patrons of a bar. When he was turned down he turned Katrina loose in the parking lot and just put the pups into peoples' cars. Katrina being a good mother, jumped and scratched on these cars trying to get to her pups. She was stoned for this and had to run away and thus was brought to the SPCA. Katrina is a wonderful therapy dog visiting nursing homes, participating in "Puppy Pals" programs where children read to the dogs and many other functions. She seems to know who needs just what kind of attention and works a group of people all by herself. Brady was a stray turned into the Lycoming County SPCA. He was very thin, and full of mats and fleas. He had probably been an outside dog his entire life and had no training. Brady was trained as a Service Dog and is really good at those tasks. Brady is being kept by Eagles' Wings and used to give demonstrations of Service Dog skills. Brady also does Therapy work in the nursing homes and Puppy Pals program and is also being trained in agility. Laurel had spent her life living in a cow barn and was covered with manure when she was surrendered to the SPCA. She has a scar on her face that goes from the corner of her eye to her mouth which looks like it was caused by being kicked. Laurel was so terrified that when people were around, she laid on her side, eyes glazed, not moving, and refused any enticement to stand up. She has learned there are nice people, and has developed a border collie personality. Laurel loves to go to nursing homes and also participates in the "Puppy Pals" reading program. Laurel loves agility and other types of games.
